The CL mini (from the front end of the unit) has an led beam indicator light, followed by a button and a rotary switch (knob).

The rotary switch has four positions,

1. 1. Off,
   2. Standby,
   3. 15s which is equal to a 15 x 8 mW = 0.12 J dose, an appropriate dose for a child.
   4. and 60s which is equal to a 60 x 8 mW = 0.48 J dose an appropriate dose for an adult.

To activate the CL mini 8mw laser, first select your required time (15 or 60 seconds), wait 2 seconds (the laser will not start prior to 2 seconds after selecting the dosage, this is a built in safety precaution) ,then hold down the button (you must continue to hold down the button for the duration).

The unit will turn off automatically when the time is reached, to reduce the time (or stop the laser) simply release the button.

Between uses switch the laser to standby mode and at the end of every therapy session switch to Off to turn the laser off and reduce battery consumption.

The CL plus (from the front end of the unit) has an led beam indicator light, a button, another led battery indicator light and two rotary switches (knobs).

1. The first led light (nearest the front of the unit) is a beam on indicator.
2. The button starts the beam (unless the first switch is in the off position).
3. The rear led light is battery health light.
4. The first rotary switch offers the following selections Off(Aus in the illustration), child acupuncture(Akup. Kind) and adult acupuncture(Akup. Erw). The  following laser therapy options of this switch allow you to select the size of the area you intend to treat in cm's squared.
5. The second rotary switch is to select the strength of the beam in joules per second.

To use the laser acupuncture mode first select child(Akup. Kind) or adult (Akup. Erw) acupuncture, then wait two seconds and tap the button, you do not need to hold the button for the full duration. The right hand dial position is irrelevant in the acupuncture positions.

For laser therapy, the left hand dial position selects the area to be treated in square cm's. and the right hand dial selects the amount of energy per unit area.
Start treatments with 0.5 or 1.0 Joule per square cm to keep treatment times reasonable.
Treatment time is proportional to the product of area and energy per unit area.
Doubling the energy per unit area will double the treatment time.
*Note the 100 has faster delivery times, delivering one joule in 10 seconds compared with 17 seconds for the 60mW laser.
